Volunteer Program - Reading Buddies

Tyger River Children’s Center is always looking for volunteers to work with individual students one-on-one or with a class as reading buddies. Most of our students are instructed by their teachers to read 20 minutes each day. We try to incorporate this into our homework program, but for our beginning readers, reading alone is often difficult. One teacher is not always able to read with all of the students in the classroom. Having a Reading Buddy come in and either read to a child (or have the child read to them) or read to a class helps build confidence in and improve language arts skills.

Volunteers - Special Skills (i.e. Music, Sports, Art)

If you have a special skill you would like to share with the children at Tyger River Children’s Center, please let us know. Many of our students take piano lessons on site, but could use some help practicing their piano skills on non-lesson days. Maybe you are talented in art and could teach a group of children a new art technique. Maybe you like to play sports and could assist with batting practice, basketball, or soccer. We are always open to volunteers who can spend time with the children our program and help them improve their interests and hobbies.

All volunteers must complete a volunteer information form. A background check must be completed before anyone can volunteer at TRCC.
